WALTER SPELLER

Dutch born Walter Speller has experience in every conceivable aspect of wine since he started as a wine waiter in 1997 in Berlin after obtaining a degree in art history in Amsterdam. Stints in Bordeaux followed in 2002 and 2003, after which he moved to London where he worked as a sommelier and wine merchant manager.

A fascination and passion for Italian wine led to an export and marketing consultancy assisting small, artisanal Italian producers entering the UK and US markets.

Walter reports extensively from Italy on www.JancisRobinson.com. He is the Italian contributor and researcher for both The World Atlas of Wine and The Oxford Companion to Wine and his articles have appeared in Decanter Wine Magazine, Club Oenologique and The Financial Times. He regularly conducts and chairs trade seminars and master classes, both in London and Italy as well as New York. He is fluent in Dutch, English, German and Italian.
